The Ramblers is Britain's walking charity, working to safeguard the footpaths, the countryside and other places we go walking, and to encourage more people to take up walking. With 119,000 members in England, Scotland and Wales, we've been working for walkers for 76 years.
We are the North and Mid-Cheshire group of the Ramblers and we have a regular and varied walking programme both locally and further afield. Our area is divided into four Groups; Vale Royal and Knutsford, Halton, Warrington and Cheshire Walkers.
Each week there are at least seven organised walks, details of which can be found in the "Walks Programme" section of our website (follow the "Full Programme" link). The Cheshire Walkers is our younger group and they have their own walking programme. You can find out about that in the "Cheshire Walkers" section of the menu.
On Sundays there are two short local walks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. These are usually about 5 miles each and the terrain is fairly easy. We complete these walks in 2-2.5 hours.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have day long walks from about 9-15 miles with varying levels of difficulty. These are leisurely, moderate, hard and strenuous; you can find the definitions of these categories under the "Walks Programme" section of our website. We travel to the start of these walks in our own cars or sometimes we use public transport. If you're new to our group it's probably a good idea to start with a shorter walk of "Moderate" category so that you can judge where you fit in.
On Sundays, and some Tuesdays, we have a coach which travels a little further. We leave the area between 8:00 and 9:00 and get back between 18:30 (winter) and 20:30 (summer). When we arrive at our destination there are usually four walks available on the Sunday coaches (two on Tuesdays) graded from A to D (typically 16 miles to 7 miles) These coaches cost between £11 and £13 per person. They are popular and you need to book your place on them. They are each run by the individual groups so you need to go to the group page on the website to find out how to book.
You don't need to be a member of the Ramblers to try us out. Just turn up at the start of the walk and introduce yourself to the leader who will then introduce you to the rest of the group and check that you are OK throughout the day. After you've been on a couple of walks to try us out, you are expected to become a member of the Ramblers if you want to carry on walking with us.
If you need more information, please contact the Walks Coordinator or the Area Secretary. You'll find their contact details at the bottom of the front page on our website.
